      About the author

A wild man in the wilderness, nothing special. That you can imagine. But how to fit within both wilderness and society as it is?

Nara draws from both worlds, marrying contradictions, and telling a unique story of our culture and humanness. He’s a living example that it’s possible to participate in a culture and be free from its oppression.

Nara has lived for more than a decade without shoes, a toothbrush, flushing toilets, and other “necessities” of modern life. This native Slovene travels the world barefoot, speaking, teaching, and supporting environmental projects. His homebase is a sustainable community project in Slovenia that he co-founded in 2013. My barefoot world travels

      January 10th, 2024|

Often people can't believe that I've been to 50 countries barefoot. "Airports and all?" they ask. I nod. I don't take many photos in airports, but here's one from 2012 in Doha, Qatar: I should have taken more photos in so many places that I've been to, but I haven't. It's too late to complain. Still, I found quite a few and I made a small album of my barefoot adventures. Some countries were more friendly to barefooters, and some were less when I  visited them. I had hardly anyone complaining about me being barefoot or limiting access to venues in most countries in Europe
